The new king of passenger car sales in 2021

In 2021, the "big two" Hyundai and Toyota will always replace each other in the ranking of the number of automobiles sold in the domestic market. This race grows increasingly competitive in the final months of the year as demand rises. As a result, Hyundai had to lose the passenger vehicle throne to Toyota.

Toyota is the market leader in terms of passenger car sales

Hyundai is the firm with the most automobiles sold in the market in 2020, with approximately 73200 units sold. Toyota, on the other hand, barely sold 70600 units and finished second. Toyota reclaimed its sales lead in 2021, surpassing the Hyundai brand assembled and distributed by Thanh Cong Group.

Toyota Vietnam sold approximately 69,000 vehicles, including Luxas cars, according to figures from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association. This figure has propelled Toyota to the top of the passenger car market in 2021. Furthermore, Toyota shipped around 30,330 vehicles in Vietnam out of a total of 69,000 vehicles sold.

In 2021, Toyota Vietnam sold about 69,000 vehicles, including Lexus cars

Toyota is the vehicle firm with the lowest sales decrease in the VAMA group of Japanese automakers. Furthermore, as a result of the Covid epidemic’s severe influence, vehicle manufacturers’ sales, notably Toyota, dropped. In 2021, this automobile manufacturer experiences a negative growth rate of approximately 4.66 percent when compared to 2020.

Meanwhile, Hyundai sold 70,518 automobiles in 2021 (down 13.3% from 2020), including 9,787 commercial vehicles. Thus, the overall number of automobiles, the entire number of Hyundai passenger cars sold is 60,731 units, which is less than the total number of Toyota Vietnam cars sold, which is 8,271 units. At the same time, this figure indicates that Hyundai Vietnam has lost its dominant position in the passenger vehicle market.

The ranking of the Top 10 Best-Selling Cars in 2021 has been disturbed

According to statistics from sales reports provided by automobile manufacturers and VAMA, the list of best-selling cars in Vietnam in 2021 is subject to significant volatility. In which VinFast Fadil has surpassed Toyota Vios in sales in last seven years, selling 24,128 vehicles. This suggests that in 2021, the VinFast Fadil has been the most popular car model in Vietnam.

Furthermore, the Toyota Vios fell to third place after being surpassed by the Hyundai Accent, which had a few dozen more cars in the B-size sedan class. Toyota Corolla Cross is ranked fourth on the list. Corolla Cross has sold 18,441 vehicles in the last year, with prices ranging from 720 to 910 million VND.

With 16,122 vehicles sold, Kia Seltos is ranked fifth. In the urban SUV segment, this is also a “heavy” challenger for the Toyota Corolla Cross. The fact that the Kia Seltos has a square, aggressive, and comfortable design, as well as the brand’s greatest performance in the SUV segment, contributes to its inclusion in this ranking.

The Ford Ranger is the only pickup model on the list of the Top 10 best-selling cars in 2021, with sales of 15,650 units in the price range of $628 to $937 million. The Mitsubishi Xpander, Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai Grand i10, and Kia Cerato/K3 take the final four spots in the standings.
