Some businesses stop mooncake production
Mr. Kao Sieu Luc, the owner of the ABC Bakery chain, said that this year the company did not produce mooncakes. The cause was that during the complicated Covid-19 epidemic, employees had to perform medical isolation, and shops were temporarily closed. On the other hand, the stagnating economy made consumer demand go down. Workers were struggling to make a living, so buying mooncakes was inessential.
Along with ABC Bakery, Kido Group finds that investment costs for the mooncakes production this year will rise significantly, but the consumption quantity will decrease sharply. Thus, it will be hard for firms to make profit with normal production methods.
Hundreds of small mooncake factories in Ho Chi Minh City announced to stop making mooncakes this year. The complicated and contagious disease forced the factory owners to give up big orders which was up to hundreds of cakes.
Many businesses turn to e-commerce
The representative of Mondelez Kinh Do Vietnam, a brand with a large market share, said that this year they did not set too many expectations due to the complicated development of the Covid-19 epidemic. Enterprises would expand their distribution channels online by cooperating with e-commerce platforms.
With more than 70 years of experience in the processing of moon cakes and traditional jams – the Thanh Long cake did not construct a specific production plan. Instead, customers with small quantity orders will receive cakes after 48 hours from ordering. For large businesses, the factory will produce according to their demand.
Some businesses have plans to focus on promoting online channels such as Facebook, as well as cooperate with partners like AEON, Lotte mart, GrabFood, ShopeeFood (Now), GrabMart, NowFresh, etc. to push sales.
Besides, some businesses also organize workshops to instruct mooncake making so that everyone can make their own cakes.
