Regarding this recommendation, Ms. Phan Thi Thang, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, said that she had signed a document to submit to the City Council to consider continuing to implement the package to support logistics businesses, which is to not charge seaport infrastructure fees from now until April 1, 2022, ie in the next 6 months.
She add that the city will implement 6 main solutions to develop logistics services, in which focus on 3 key solutions.
Firstly, the City is researching the establishment of 7 logistics centers with a total area of 623 hectares distributed throughout the city’s bordering areas, to strengthen connections with cities and provinces and improve the capacity and productivity of transshipment of import and export goods. At the same time, this is a distribution center which supports the inner city’s retail and e-commerce system, contributing to reducing traffic congestion and dependence on central warehouse systems, modern distribution systems, which are distributed in neighboring provinces.
Secondly, applying information technology, the City wishes to soon establish a logistics ecosystem, using shared data for all businesses and state management agencies. Thereby optimizing the process of transporting import and export goods and domestic distribution, contributing to reducing logistics costs. The recent epidemic situation shows that we need to focus more on digitizing the logistics industry.
The third is training and fostering human resources in the logistics industry. The city is determined to become a logistics human resource training center for the southern region and the whole country, because after all, human resources are the inner strength of the city.
In addition, the City will have solution groups to connect logistics services, promote cooperation and regional linkage in logistics; organize an annual meeting with the logistics business community. All of these solutions require the close coordination of the logistics business community.
In March 2021, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City officially approved the “Project on developing logistics industry in the city until 2025, orientation to 2030”, with the goal of developing logistics into a spearhead service industry of the City, accounting for an increasing proportion in the GRDP structure. Thereby, helping the City improve its role as a hub for domestic goods exchange and connecting with the international market, contributing to reducing the ratio of logistics costs in the country compared to the national GDP, ensuring sustainable development.
