“Smart” equipment for container fleets
According to Maximilian Rothkopf – CEO of Hapag-Lloyd, the company can provide all customers with real-time track and trace data, helping to provide the most complete view of any container shipping activity in the world in the future. Thanks to this technology, we can detect delays earlier, then notify affected customers automatically and take action to prevent the problem.
Accordingly, the new devices will be able to transmit data on a real-time basis from each container and can supply location data based on GPS, measure temperature, and monitor any sudden shocks to the container. And in the future, additional sensors could be added through Bluetooth.
In order to ensure the safety of crews, cargo, and vessels, the equipment is designed and certified to ATEX Zone 2 explosion-proof standards. The company will also continue to work with key customers to develop and extend the product and improve its features based on their feedback. By 2023, Hapag-Lloyd LIVE will be ready to operate on standard containers.
Besides, according to a statement, the shipping container monitoring device integrates the latest energy harvesting technology and low power consumption technique to ensure a super long lifespan with the ability to send high-frequency data.
Changing the game of the container shipping industry
Maximilian Rothkopf stated: “We firmly believe that our real-time tracking approach will not only be beneficial for our customers but be a game-changer for the entire container shipping industry”.
According to Olaf Habert, container application manager at Hapag-Lloyd, the company’s vision is to build the world’s smartest container fleet and deliver valuable information to customers at the frequency they need.
He added: “Working with the most advanced companies in global IoT applications will help improve our container fleet as quickly as possible. This is what customers expect to help them better manage their complex supply chains.”
