Gemalink port has become the biggest deep-water port in the Southern area of Vietnam. It can handle 03 mother vessels simultaneously. Moreover, Gemalink is notably the only deep-water port with a specialized berth area dedicated to feeder vessels and barges connecting directly with Ho Chi Minh city, Mekong River delta ports and the neighbor countries’ ports such as: Thailand, Cambodia,…
Gemalink port has the total investment capital of USD 330 million for Phase I. This project was implemented by the two major groups in the maritime and port operation sectors, which are: Gemadept Corporation (75%) and CMA – CGM Group (25%).
According to the design paper, Gemalink port can handle largest vessels of the world with capacity of up to 200,000 DWT. The designated handling capacity of Gemalink is 1.5 million TEU per annum in the Phase I, and 2.4 million TEUs per annum after finishing all phases. The port currently possesses a 800m-long berth, and a 230m feeder/barge berth.
This “giant” port is also equipped with the most state-of-the-art technologies, with 6 STS cranes and 19 RTG cranes. Besides, Gemalink is also complimented as a “Smart Port”, thanks to the presence of a software system which helps to transfer all the information and data during the process of operating cranes to the Port Operation Center. This will be of great assistance in ensuring the effective control of each and every container position on the yards, then, enhancing the safety and efficiency of the port.
It is also expected that Gemalink will become a catalyst to the development of regional logistics centers, satellite ICD network, warehouses, industrial clusters and support activities in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province in particular and the whole Southern area in general.
