Ho Chi Minh City will conduct location research to establish 3 large – scale logistics centers
From now on to 2030, Ho Chi Minh City will accelerate the construction of key transport infrastructure works for logistics activities, pitching logistics centers development projects, which serve the transshipment of goods between Ho Chi Minh City with other cities, to potential investors.
One of the key contents is to carry out a feasibility study on the location of 3 major logistics centers construction projects in the period of 2021 – 2025, in order to gradually form the system of logistics centers in the city. These centers will be located in traffic hub areas such as airports, ports, railway stations or on major roads in suburban areas, etc.., in accordance with the overall socio-economic development plans and relevant sectoral plans.
Specifically, Ho Chi Minh City Municipal People’s Committee requested the Department of Industry and Trade to conduct a feasibility study to establish three major logistics centers, including: Cat Lai logistics center, Linh Trung logistics center and Cu Chi logistics center in the period of 2021 – 2025. Meanwhile, the Department of Transport will coordinate with the Thu Duc City Municipal People’s Committee and related districts to review and arrange appropriate land funds in the process of adjusting zoning planning.
Logistics industry is development orientated as Ho Chi Minh City’s spearhead economy
Previously, Ho Chi Minh City has also approved and promulgated the “Project on developing the logistics industry in Ho Chi Minh City to 2025, orientation to 2030” , in order to improve the role of the city as a focal point for domestic goods exchange and international trade center. The city’s goal by 2030 is to have the contribution rate of logistics services to GRDP reach about 15%, the contribution rate of outsourced logistics services will be about 65%, which will contribute to reducing logistics costs of the whole economy compared to GDP about 15% – 17%.
If the implementation plan is feasible, this project will solve many problems not only for Ho Chi Minh City but the Southern key economic region as well. Digital transformation and application of information technology should be considered as an indispensable and priority trend of the logistics industry in the period 2021-2025, along with two strategic tasks: focusing on developing logistics for the e-commerce industry and providing services chainfor import and export goods, Mr. Bui Ta Hoang Vu, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, said.
