Cargo passing through Vietnamese ports has managed to be on the rise in the context of shipping activities heavily affected by Covid-19.
According to the representative of Vietnam Maritime Administration, recent statistics indicate that in the first 7 months of 2020, the total cargo volume through Vietnamese ports reached more than 397.5 million tons. Meanwhile, the volume of containerized cargo through ports reached more than 11.8 million Teus, which increased by 6% and 8% respectively over the same period in 2019.
Particularly in July 2020, the volume of goods through ports which was nearly 57.8 million Teus increased by 1%, Whilst, containerized cargo reached more than 1.68 million Teus, 2% higher than that of the same period last year.
The representative also mentioned “That the volume of goods through ports in the first 7 months of the year increased by 6% is a good news in recent months although maritime activities have not escaped the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Previously, statistics of the Vietnam Maritime Administration in the first 6 months of the year shows that regardless of the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the volume of goods through some port areas still experienced a two-digit growth such as that of Quang Tri port increased by over 72% due to the generation of woodchip exports to China and sand and gypsum exports to Ninh Binh; the figure for Quang Ngai increased broke the record and reached 1.300%.
In addition, some port areas such as Nam Dinh, Can Tho, Thanh Hoa, Thai Binh also witnessed a significant increase, from 20 – 28% compared to that of the same period in 2019.
Besides, some areas had a strong growth in containerized cargo such as My Tho area increased by 354%, Thanh Hoa increased by 115%, An Giang increased by 85%, Da Nang increased by 11% …
