According to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the shortage of cargo warehouses at airports will continue to worsen soon when the number of goods arriving at the end of the year is extremely large. Currently, airports have not been able to take radical measures to solve the problem of cargo congestion that has been happening in the past.
At John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK), located in New York City, goods out of the warehouse were delayed by more than two weeks than usual. A delivery manager at this airport admitted that they are facing a lot of difficulties due to a shortage of warehouses, so they cannot export goods out of the warehouse.
He added that, in his 28 years of working at JFK, he has never encountered a situation as bad as this moment. Besides, getting out of the warehouse is currently a big challenge as they have to add shipping and storage costs to customers. Moreover, they have to explain why this is happening.
An executive at RFS (Worldwide Flight Services) based at JFK said: “We have been dealing with a lot of goods that have not been released from the warehouse, and they are hearing a lot of complaints. from its customers”. In addition, he said, this is having a huge impact on the holiday season, and consumers are paying $15-25 per kilogram of air freight into the US.
Meanwhile, China Airlines and China Airlines Cargo have a delay of 9 to 10 days to recall the goods. About 200 – 300 units have been left on the tarmac because there is no place to put them in stock.
In addition, Emirates, Etihad (all major airlines of the UAE), Lufthansa Cargo (a German airline) are also experiencing delays, and transfer operations at the airport are also facing many difficulties.
WFS (Worldwide Flight Services) operations in Los Angeles are also under pressure because of a lack of warehouses, while the city is focusing on investing in the Olympics to be held here in 2028.
