Nike makes its first step into the Metaverse
Metaverse is a shared virtual space where everyone participating as avatars can interact with others, enjoy concerts, and shop digitally.

In October 2021, this giant of the apparel industry took its first steps into the Metaverse space. The Oregon-based company has filed seven trademark applications in preparation for a plan to sell products such as clothing and virtual sneakers on NFT Marketplaces.
Besides, Nike also conducts recruitment in this new segment. On its job posting page, Nike posted “looking for someone with experience in Visual Design and someone with skills in designing virtual materials for footwear and clothing”.
Nike launches virtual headquarters Nikeland
On November 18, Nike launched a virtual world modeled after the company’s headquarters on the video game platform Roblox Corp, becoming one of the first major brands to participate in the “Metaverse “.
Nikeland’s interface is designed to be friendly and eye-catching, simulating city images or characters that are very realistic, creating attraction for users. With the slogan “Dream it. Make it. Play it.” Nike has opened up a world of sports, a race with friends and hidden secrets!

On Nikeland, visitors can use the accelerometer in their mobile device to emulate offline movement into the online game, enabling lifelike movement in the digital space.
Nikeland has just been launched but has attracted a lot of attention from users. Specifically, within 24 hours, there were more than 2 million visitors and nearly 32,000 likes. This is quite an impressive number for a newly launched platform like Nikeland.
With such momentum in the future, Nike will likely reap a lot of profits from doing business in the Metaverse space.
