Lack of land to develop industrial parks and logistics centers
Recently, some investors wanted to rent a large area of several tens of hectares to invest in industrial parks of Ho Chi Minh City, but they did not. The area of land for logistics centers in particular and industrial parks in general has not expanded significantly over the years.
Talking to businesses interested in investing in Ho Chi Minh City’s Hi-Tech Park recently, Mr. Phan Van Mai, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee said that in the near future, the city may consider transforming the capacity of some industrial parks to serve logistics infrastructure. This goal is set to create conditions to promote industrial zones in the city, as well as create favorable conditions for logistics enterprises.
On the basis of reviewing a number of industrial zones, the city will recalculate the industrial development target and assess the current infrastructure status. From there, we will listen and give opinions on the restructuring and conversion of functions and then promote new industrial parks. In addition to 7 logistics centers already planned in the logistics planning project, Ho Chi Minh City wants to expand the land for logistics infrastructure, especially in Thu Duc City.
According to Mr. Bui Ta Hoang Vu, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, currently regarding the legalization of the land use function in the planning, the city has basically agreed to complete the planning of 7 land areas to build a logistics center. After that, the city will organize a bidding to select investors, the centers will have all the functions and facilities of the state agencies to participate.
With the goal of reducing the average logistics cost of the whole country to between 10% and 15% by 2025, Ho Chi Minh City has set a target for the growth rate of logistics service revenue of Ho Chi Minh City enterprises by 2020 (2025 will reach 15% and in 2030 reach 20%). At the same time, the proportion of contribution to GRDP in 2025 will reach 10% and increase to 12% in 2030.
Thu Duc City will become a logistics center in the Southeast region
Ho Chi Minh City currently has 7 Logistics centers, namely Long Binh, Cat Lai, Linh Trung, Hi-Tech Park, Tan Kien, Hiep Phuoc and Cu Chi. It is expected that by 2025, it will focus on calling for investment in 4 logistics centers in Long Binh (50ha); Cat Lai (200-292ha); Linh Trung (60-74ha); The Hi-Tech Park (5-6ha) are all located in Thu Duc City.
According to Mr. Nguyen Bach Hoang Phung, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thu Duc City, located in the dynamic development area of Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region, where the flow of goods is highly concentrated, Thu Duc is assessment has advantages in geo-economic, favorable to promote production, export and logistics services.
Thu Duc identifies logistics as an important service industry in the overall economic structure, playing the role of supporting, connecting and promoting local socio-economic development, contributing to improving economic competitiveness.
