The 4th train is currently manufactured and is expected to bring the first train from France to Vietnam by the end of 2020
Hanoi Urban Railway Project Management Board has just shared some panoramas of the first train for Nhon-Hanoi station urban railway project which is being manufactured and tested at the factory.
According to the design, 10 trains will be manufactured during the process, each has 80-meter 4 carriages (another carriage might be added), being capable of holding 944 guests. On May 11th, the contractor started producing the fourth train. Before that, the first train had been put into alignment while the second one had become eligible to be put on trial. The production of the third train had been completed.
According to the project management board, it is expected to bring the first train to the country in July 2020 for trial operation before utilizing the elevated section in April 2021. However, in the first 5 months of 2020, due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the project progress has been affected, thus bringing the train back to the country by the end of the year might be delayed.
Since mid-February 2020, the project has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, especially the package of design, manufacture and installation of ships. This is attributed to the fact that most of the equipment, which is manufactured and imported from France, is behind schedule for production, manufacture, acceptance and transport of equipment. The pandemic has caused some disruptions during the process, so the contractor experts have not been able to work in Vietnam.
In June 2020, Vice Chairman of City People’s Committee Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen The Hung went on a field trip to supervise the construction of Nhon railway station. Here, Mr. Hung asked for the ground clearance work by late June 2020; In December 2020, the first train had to return to Hanoi; In January 2021, the underground road construction began.
The Nhon – Hanoi railway project is currently under construction with a length of 12.5 km, including 8.5 km for overhead and 4 km for underground. The project has a total investment of 1,176 million Euro, from ODA loans from the European Investment Bank, the French Government, the Asian Development Bank and domestic reciprocal capital.
